    DLV Celebrates International Women's Day

    Mar 08, 2023

This year, the theme of International Women’s Day is ‘Every Woman Counts’ – It’s a reminder that all women, from all ages and walks of life, have a place in every aspect of Canadian society, including in the economic, social and democratic spheres. Women are capable of contributing valuable experience and skills to any industry they want to pursue.

Your favourite wine from Dirty Laundry Vineyard is only made possible by a number of hard-working women. This International Women’s Day, we want to take a moment to highlight two of these women and the ways they have contributed to the success of Dirty Laundry Vineyard.

    Lisa Marie Ritchat

    BC Interior Sales Manager

    • How long have you been at Dirty Laundry Vineyard and what do you do here?

I have been working at DLV for 4 years. I am the BC Interior Sales Manager, meaning I make sure all your favourite restaurants and stores are stocked with DLV wine.

    • What do you like best about your job and what is your favourite Dirty Laundry Wine?

I love my job, as I get to have a good mix of working at the winery and being on the road building relationships with our industry partners.

One of my favorite wines is our Sauvignon Blanc. Year after year it is consistently good, with the 2022 being my favorite vintage yet. It has a nice tropical mid-palate with a beautiful acidity.

    • The theme of International Women’s Day this year is ‘Every Woman Counts’. What does this mean to you and how can this standard be achieved?

This theme is a bit tough for me, as when I read it, I think “Of course Every Women Counts”. We deserve to be at every table, we should be diversly represented in all aspects of life, but that is obviously not the case, or this would not be the theme. This is very important, and we as women need to work with each other, help represent the inequalities that are happening within society and in workplaces, and make sure that everyone is being treated fairly and respectfully. If that is not the case, we have to make sure that we speak up, and help be part of that change.

    • How do you think women can build each other up in a meaningful way, both in and out of the workplace?

We have to all stand together and support each other. This is very important in the workplace but just as much on a day-to-day basis. Being there for each other, sharing resources, and being accepting and supportive day in and day out is mandatory.

    Carol Jessop

    Account Receivable Clerk

    • How long have you been at Dirty Laundry Vineyard and what do you do here?

I’ve been with DLV for 8 years now. As the Accounts Receivable Clerk, my job mostly consists of collecting payments from our wholesale customers, such as liquor stores, restaurants and grocery stores that carry our wine. I am also the person everyone comes to when they need office supplies, as I take care of making sure the office is stocked with the items everyone needs to accomplish their jobs on a daily basis (aka, I can get you anything from pens to a whiteboard the size of your office wall, if you need it).

    • What do you like best about your job and what is your favourite Dirty Laundry Wine?

I like the people I work with, as well as the fact that every day brings new challenges, so I get to continue learning, despite having been here for 8 years now! My favourite wine that Dirty Laundry makes is the Dangerous Liaison, which is an easy drinking red blend.

Women need to reach out to other women and discuss challenges, experiences and other happenings, both in life and in the workplace. We need to talk about our influences in both these spheres as well and how we can learn from them and each other. If we see something that is not in keeping with the respect that women have had to work hard to earn, then speak up. Staying silent does no one any good.
